Rep. Allen West’s assertion that nearly 80 Democratic members of Congress are Communists begs for modification. Perhaps Rep. West should have chosen his terms more carefully. The proper term is Progressives, and they have their own Congressional Progressive Caucus. No surprise about the usual firebrands/AgitPropers, but the image is given a somewhat genteel cast by the likes of Rush Holt(NJ) and Carolyn Maloney(NY). 76 “Progressives.” That’s pretty close to 80. And among their pet projects: “Restore the American Dream to the 99%.” That’s the respectable way of saying “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.” Progressive Marxism perhaps, what Pete Seeger called “good old-fashioned Americanism,” and it still pains him to hear a bad word about Stalin (a prominent Progressive of yore).
