“You never want a serious crisis to go to waste” is the operating credo of every political opportunist anxious to offer us Perfect Security in exchange for our liberties. To counter evil when it inevitably arises is the last thing on the minds of those who would smother us for our own good. Simply enforcing existing, fundamental laws and making perpetrators, not guns or violent movies, responsible for heinous acts would be a crisis gone to waste for our would-be tyrants.
