Thousands of determined tea party activists converged in a park in America’s oldest city Saturday and heard a succession of Republican candidates promise to heed their demands for less government and lower taxes.

The Right Nation 2010 convention has been going on in Chicago. Andrew Breitbart was a featured participant, along with Glenn Beck and others. Obamabots from OFA and paid union thugs were bused in to create the illusion of a grass roots opposition to the conservative gathering. Breitbart, with typical boldness, didn’t just walk past the paid union members who had no idea why they had been ordered to attend. Rather, he confronted them. In the end, they retreated sheepishly.

I don’t know which is more amusing: Democrats assuming that any candidate with Tea Party backing is certifiable, or Republicans upset with the idea that RINOs are slowly becoming an endangered species within their own party. One thing is certain: the movement both sides are trying to discredit is revealing what’s really in play come November.

Confronted with tales of their zillionaire populists, liberals claim (a) that the way that they vote counts for more than the way they spend money; and (b) that many great names in political history have lived well and had money themselves. The last point is true, but there is a difference in degree and in kind that has only come recently. Let us consider the facts.

That was the takeaway message of the recent “Restoring Honor” rally on the National Mall.
Unless you were on a strict no-media diet in the run-up to Labor Day this year, you saw a lot of Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin in the coverage of the rally. But the rally Beck organized, and at which Palin appeared, honoring wounded military heroes, actually had very little to do with Beck or Palin.
