UPDATE 7/30/24: It’s inevitable that anyone chosen by Trump as his running mate would be the focus of relentless attack. In addition to being attractive and articulate, J.D. Vance’s authenticity is bolstered by his widely celebrated rags-to-riches saga of coming up triumphantly the hard way in blue collar America. Whatever fire he’s bound to draw for the sin of being White and Conservative in the fevered minds of Woke Dem/ID Politics/Leftist America should be partially offset by his Indian-American wife and their young, healthy mixed-race brood. The rest of America chooses to live by MLK’s vision of a color-blind society.
The irritating noise from the Left at the moment is a quote now gone viral from Vance made several years back about “cat ladies,” unmarried/childless women, that has created a stir. He was advocating marriage and family as life’s ideal and a pragmatic path necessary for any society that expects to survive. However, it’s being played and having the negative effect equivalent to Hillary’s dismissal of ALL her political foes as “deplorables,” a fair comparison if any politician is careless enough to marginalize any large demographic of the electorate. In today’s exquisitely sensitive ID politics climate, every perceived slight is magnified into a crime against all humanity and decency.
In real life (as opposed to today’s Dem narrative), the reasons for the single, childless life independent of family are varied. Where sanity is present, the votes of those “cat ladies” grounded in principle and common sense will not be affected, but this is an election (like most) riding on attracting the votes of Independents and Undecideds. There is always a large segment of the population easily swayed to vote Republican one election, only to switch to Democrat the next, including “cat ladies” …and gay, Chicano, one-legged midgets.
Time will tell.
